Text Box:

Whidbey Island is located in Puget Sound in the State of Washington, about 50 miles from Seattle.  It is considered the longest island in the continental United States.  The usual way of getting to Whidbey Island is on a Washington State Ferry, though there is a bridge over Deception Pass at the north end of the island.

The climate is mild with  temperatures ranging from about 20 F in the winter to 90 F in summer. Because part of the island is in the rain shadow of the Olympic Mountains the rainfall varies from about 16 inches per year in the north to 30 inches in the south.

Friendship Force of Whidbey Island has been in existence since 1991.  As of 2005, we have had 15 Inbound exchanges and 12 Outbound.

Text Box: On the property of the South Whidbey Parks & Rec. there is a grove of trees. In the middle of this grove is a large rock with a planted area around it. This is the “Trees of Friendship” grove. As each incoming exchange occurs a tree is planted in honor of the people that are visiting us. We try to match the tree to the country.
